The Rotary Club of Port Fairy welcomed District Governor, Stephen Lamont, to its Dinner Meeting on 26th September at the The Star of the West Hotel.

Stephen was inducted as DG for Rotary District 9780 in July 2016 and was visiting Port Fairy as part of his journey to visit all clubs in the District.

In addressing members of the Club, including a number of partners present on the evening Stephen spoke of his earlier meeting that afternoon with members of the Board and his pleasant surprise at the enthusiasm and activities displayed by all Club Rotarians and the projects undertaken by the Club.

As part of his brief talk he noted that Port Fairy Rotarians had not been very active in attending District conferences in recent years encouraged members t consider the 2017 cofere being held in Geelong which will have a shortened format and reduced cost to participants.

He also encouraged all Rotarians in the District to consider donations to the Rotary Centurion program which, after a period of three years, always returned a minimum of 50% of donated funds to the District to support club grants and other initiatives.  Stephen also outlined a focus of D9780 in his year as Governor to support indigenous programs in NT which was being promoted as the DG's partner program for 2016/17.

In all, Stephen seemed to enjoy the evening mingling with Club members and promised to return one weekend to assist with a Rotary event. During the evening he was invited to bestow a Rotary "Pride of Workmanship" Award to recently retired NAB Bank Manager, Julie Holcombe.

Assistant District Governor, Janey Preston, also attended the meeting and was warmly welcomed back by all Rotarians as she is a regular visitor to Port Fairy events.  Janey is pictured below with Club President, Adrian Crosier and DG, Stephen Lamont.
