Former Councillor and Mayor of Moyne Shire Council, Brenda Hampson, was the guest speaker at a recent meeting of the Rotary Club of Port Fairy.

Brenda is now the coordinator of ConnectU which is a not for profit organisation based in Warrnambool that provides transport assistance and services to connect people in need of transport services.

Brenda spoke passionately about this growing service that provides needy members of the community with access to a central hub for transport services and transport assistance information.

However, the ConnectU is more that just an advisory service and provides real solutions to people who have difficulty in finding a means of getting to their destinations for such things as medical appointments, shopping or social outings by relying on volunteer drivers to provide door to door transport for eligible clients.

The service is gradually expanding beyond Warrnambool and Brenda was particularly interested in recruiting volunteer drivers from the Port Fairy region.  Volunteers do not necessarily have to provide their own vehicle for transport as ConnectU have negotiated with both private and public organisations to use under-utilised vehicles in their fleet for the ConnectU service.

The ConnectU service operates from 9am to 4pm Monday to Friday and needy people requiring transport can contact the service on 5561 4958 to seek assistance.

Brenda encouraged members of the Rotary Club who could provide assistance to consider volunteering their time to this worthy cause that can make so much difference to their growing number of clients.  Those interested in volunteering should contact Brenda on 5561-4958 or 0419 599 571.  Email to brenda@connectu.org.au
