Grant funding from the Port Fairy Folk Festival Committee, awarded to the Rotary Club of Port Fairy, was recently presented to Jenny & Rebecca Birchell  for the Taksenkangbloung Community Centre in Cambodia.

The Rotary Club had successfully applied for financial support from the Folk Festival grants program to support the good work being carried out by Jenny Birchell and her daughter, Rebecca, in establishing a support centre for children in the Cambodian town.

Jenny and Rebecca had previously presented to the  Rotary Club in October 2014 and their work inspired Port Fairy Rotarians to help them in their cause. They returned to the Club at its Dinner meeting on 2nd February 2015 where Rebecca reported on the progress of the project to build "chook sheds" at the Taksenkangbloung Community Centre and also outlined some of the other food-related projects, fundraising activities and support programs that have occurred since they last addressed the Rotary Club.  By having breeding and laying chooks in the Centre the community is better able to sustain its food program.

At the conclusion of her presentation President, John Clue, presented Rebecca (pictured below) with a cheque for $1,200 being funds from the Folk Festival grant specifically received by the Rotary Club in support of their “chook shed” project.
