In 2010, when Derek Southey and Harry Bracegirdle were researching the archives preparing material for the Club's 50th Anniversary commemorative magazine, they came upon  the following quote in one of the Club's Bulletins from  1967.  These wise words are relevant to any club, not just Rotary, and it is well worth reflecting on them again in 2012.

 It is with pride that our club in Port Fairy is well served by a group of very active Club members who have provided fantastic support for all of the recent activities held over the busy November to January period.  This is  a period where the hosting of many events has severely strained our limited resources but we have come through - well done Port Fairy!

Nevertheless, as active members, we should all be conscious of the need to be continually evaluating what we individually bring to the Club and Rotary.

 The quote / poem from 1967 is produced below.

Are you an active member, the kind that would be missed?
Or are you just contented that your name is on the list?

Do you attend the meetings and mingle with the flock?
Or do you stay at home and criticise and knock?

Do you ever go and visit a member who is sick?
Or leave the work for just a few and talk about the clique?

Come to the meeting often and help with hand and heart;
Don't be just a member but take an active part,

Think this over, member, you know right from wrong,
Are you an active member, or do you just belong?
