At the Changeover Dinner held 15th July 2013, Hester Woodrup was inducted as the new President of the Rotary Club of Port Fairy.

Hester took over the reins from out-going President, Margaret Whitehead who was stepping down after a successful 12-month period as leader.

Hester (pictured below) was inducted by Past President, and Paul Harris Fellow, Bernie Waixel in front of 65 friends and guests at the Star of the West Hotel in Port Fairy.

ImageHester spoke enthusiastically about the challenges ahead for her over the next 12 months and expressed her surprise that having joined the Club in 2011 she would be honoured to take on the role of President. She spoke about how much she had learned about the workings of Rotary at the PETS (President Elects Training Session) held earlier in the year and how she was excited to take on the challenge of doing good things for Rotary International and for Rotary at the local, club level.

At the Changeover Dinner, Past President, John Ellard, was given the role of recognising the role of 2012/13 President, Margaret Whitehead during the past year and highlighting the good work she had done.  John drew attention to the numerous roles that Margaret had held or was still holding in the community and pointed out that if you wanted something done then you have to give it to a busy person like Margaret.  To underline this, Margaret was not putting up her feet but had agreed to take on the demanding role of Secretary in 2013/14 in support of Hester.

It is poignant that both Hester and Margaret were honoured with an award at the recent LivCom Celebration Day, held in Port Fairy in May to mark the town's win as the World's Most Livable Community at the 2012 LivCom awards

At the LivCom celebration day, Hester and Margaret were recognised as two of the ten most influential people in the modern history of Port Fairy - a great honour indeed for these wonderful ladies which recognises the contribution their volunteering has brought to the town and why the Rotary Club of Port Fairy is now in very good hands.

During the Changeover Dinner, the Mayor of the Moyne Shire Council, Cr. Jim Doukas, gave a short speech in recognition of Rotary at both the international and local level highlighting the wonderful work done by the Club in assisting the community with its many projects.

All who attended the Dinner, including many guests from other Rotary clubs in the district as well as special guests from around Port Fairy, seemed to enjoy the night and helped celebrate Hester's induction.

In closing, the MC for the night,  Rotarian - John Clue,  thanked everyone for their attendance and wished all those that travelled a fair distance to the Dinner had a safe trip home.
