Peter Smith was inducted as President of the Port Fairy Rotary Club for 2019/20 at a glittering change-over dinner on 24 June. Peter has been a member of the Club since 2015 and served as Secretary for the last three years.
In his acceptance speech Peter outlined his ideas for the Club for the forthcoming year. These include continuing the strong program of fundraising, the Club's commitment to community service, and a drive to increase Club membership numbers. And, of course, an emphasis on having lots of fun.
Also at the event outgoing President Sue Robertson presented her report on the Club's activities and achievements for the past year.
Highlights for the year included:
- presentation of Paul Harris Fellowships to John Clue, Geoff Coxell and Hester Woodrup.
- continued involvement with youth with our 2017 exchange student Lisa van Someren attending the Rotary Youth Leadership Award and the selection of Destiny Kelly as the Club's exchange student for 2020.
- the donation of over $32,000 to local and international causes, including $10,000 to Moyne Health Services, $3,000 to the Belfast Community Pool and $2,500 for motor neurone disease research.
- The contribution of the Friends of Rotary to fundraising and the social life of the Club.
