Eleven members of the Rotary Club of Port Fairy, assisted by four members fo the Rotary Club of Warrnambool Daybreak, carried out some valuable community work on Sunday 24th May in clearing weeds and other encroaching vegetation from around the pathways around Port Fairy's Battery Hill Reserve.

The Rotary Clubs were assisting the Moyne Shire Council's Environment Officer, Richard Hodgens, in clearing some noxious weeds, creepers and dead tea-tree from the pathways linking the historic cannons site and the nearby powder magazine.  The work will undoubtedly enhance the safety of, and access by, visitors to this historic site that overlooks the East Beach and Moyne Rivers.

Although the work was hard going for what was essentially  a "grey army" it was nevertheless satisfying for all concerned to see the improvements made in just four hours of work.  The Battery Hill Reserve is in much need of some TLC and it would take many more such working bees to get on top of the clearing required but it was, at least, a good start.

Around noon, on what was essentially a good day weather-wise, the volunteers enjoyed a BBQ lunch by the Moyne River before the afternoon shift took over.
