Exchange student - Maxi MannerjohnThe Rotary Club of Port Fairy were treated to an engaging speech by visiting Rotary Exchange student, Maxi Mannerjohn, from Germany.

Maxi, who is being hosted by members of the Warrnambool Central Rotary Club, spoke enthusiastically about her four months spent to date in the region and how much she was enjoying her time in Australia. It was obvious to all who were present that Maxi had a keen sense of humour which helped her deliver her speech with much maturity - all the more notable because English was not her native language.

Maxi was looking forward to the rest of her time in Australia and the forthcoming trips around the top end of the country. She was delighted to be placed in a coastal setting and to be near the sea having come from the Rhine Valley near the French border. She spoke enthusiastically about her enjoyment of Australian Rules football (much more exciting than soccer!) and the frustration of not being able to find German phrases to match Australian colloquialisms when relating her experiences to other German students on the program and to family back home.

Maxi's warmth and the value of the exchange program may well be a fillip for the Port Fairy Rotary Club to consider sponsoring a student for this valuable program in future years.
