Students from the Port Fairy Consolidated School entertained members of the Rotary Club of Port Fairy when they attended the club's Dinner Meeting at the Star of the West Hotel on June 3rd.

 

Rotarian, John Clue, introduced Principal, Mark Chapman, and spoke of the excellent work done by Mark and the teachers at the Consolidated School.  During dinner the students performed songs, gave speeches and poetry readings taken from their recent involvement in the Warrnambool Eisteddfod.

The choir, led by Linda Beekhof, performed six songs from their Eisteddfod repertoire.

Speeches were given by students, Sarah Beasley (on Autism), Niamh Sutherland (on Bike Safety), Ahren Scott (on Man-made landmarks), Bridie Hamilton (on Dancing) and Liam Meekes (on My Family).

Poems were read by -

  • Thomas Greenwood-Wearne and Harry Hogan  (entitled "Surfing"),
  • Bonnie Williamson and James Duncan (entitled "The Race")

At the end of the performances a presentation of certificates of appreciation were handed out to the children by President Margaret Whitehead.  The students also made a special presentation to their Drama teacher, Jennifer Chambers, for her work in helping the students with their speeches and poetry.   Jennifer spoke enthusiastically about the commitment by the students and the fact that they had all written their own speeches and poems.
